By DEXTER DUGGAN The conjoined grim reapers of defenseless babies, Kermit Gosnell and Barack Obama, weren’t grinning on the day their shameful stories dominated, side by side, on some national front pages May 14. But their previous arrogant smirks still stood out in people’s minds.
Abortion-clinic extremist Gosnell and White House Democratic abortion radical Obama were the topics of the only news stories on the top half of the front pages ofboth the nationally circulated Wall Street Journal and USA Today.
Gosnell was convicted in Philadelphia the previous day of firstdegree murder in the deaths of three babies at his Women’s Medical Society, as well as involuntary manslaughter for the drug-overdose death of a recent immigrant at the filthy abortuary.
In order to escape the possibility of receiving his own death penalty, Gosnell quickly cut a plea deal with prosecutors to accept life imprisonment.
The Philadelphia Inquirer said that jury foreman David Misko subsequently told reporters that Gosnell on trial “just sat there and smirked for eight weeks. The guy’s fighting for his life, and just sits back and smirks?”
Obama’s supercilious grins were even more familiar nationally, but the president couldn’t laugh off the tidal wave of political scandals washing over his insular Washington, D.C., as the week began.
While Gosnell slit the necks of surviving babies who tried to breathe, the abortion-loving Obama couldn’t take a single breath for years without emitting gales of partisan lies.
A common denominator: Gosnell the thug abortionist and Obama the ram-through Alinskyite socialist thought they always could get away with it. And they had some pretty good reasons to think so.
Pride goes before — impeachment?
The dominant media adored permissive abortion and would cover up the brutal ugliness to a fantastic extent. Better to let babies’ blood flow in rivers, they figured.
These same media swooned over left-wing political extremism and praised a president they quickly would have hounded into oblivion by 2010 if his crimes were rightwing instead.
When pro- abortion Republican Tom Ridge became Pennsylvania governor, the word went out there were to be no barriers to abortion in the state — a radical stand that subsequent left- wing Democratic governors were happy to endorse.
When Obama announced his first run for president, pro- life activists already knew that as an Illinois state senator, Obama fought against legislation to require medical care for babies who survived abortions — the same sort of babies Gosnell was slashing away at in Philadelphia.
Obama said such a law would discourage abortion. Gosnell obviously agreed.
After Gosnell’s conviction, Foxnews. com quoted Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams: “ I will not mince words, Kermit Gosnell is a monster. Any doctor who cuts into the necks, severing the spinal cords of living, breathing babies, who would survive with proper medical attention, is a murderer and a monster.”
However, the dominant media, year after year, plugged their ears tight against Obama’s scandalous record — just as they tried to ignore the criminal trial this year of “house of horrors” Gosnell, until conservative social media, along with pro-life liberal commentator Kirsten Powers and pro-life blogger Mollie Ziegler Hemingway, pinned them to the courthouse wall.
Still, these media tried to keep Obama separate from blooddrenched Gosnell — although numerous online commentaries mentioned Obama’s radical abortion record.
After Gosnell’s conviction, blogger Hemingway, in a column at theUSA Todayweb site, quickly asked Obama to explain his own extremism.
The president’s answer would “ be particularly interesting given. . . Obama’s personal history. Known as one of the country’s fiercest defenders of abortion rights, as an Illinois state senator Obama twice voted against bills that would have ‘ defined any aborted fetus that showed signs of life as a “ born- alive infant” entitled to legal protection’,” Hemingway wrote.
“ He said he viewed the bills as backdoor attacks on a woman’s legal right to abortion,” she continued. “ He’s also given conflicting information about whether he supports the right to late- term abortions such as the ones Gosnell was convicted of performing. . . .
“ What are your thoughts, President Obama?” Hemingway concluded.
A particular political problem for Obama now is that he’s becoming badly damaged goods. Scandal after scandal exploding in mid-May became harder to defend when even liberal media had to profess their abhorrence of the Obama administration using the powerful Internal Revenue Service to harass and hammer conservatives.
Conservative national radio talker Laura Ingraham called the cascade “ scandalrama.”
Obama’s Justice Department expansively snooping on the Associated Press may have crossed the bridge of no return.
Conservative national radio talk host Mark Levin noted on May 15 that liberal media that have been so dismissive of conservatives’ constitutional rights may have to reconsider now that their own rights are targeted.
Liberal reporters may tolerate a lot, but even they don’t welcome Obama’s henchmen secretly sniffing through their records.
Moreover, there must be some shock among reporters who’ve consciously gone out of their way to cover up for Obama to discover now that he feels no gratitude for their obeisance.
If they’ve chosen to grovel before him, they shouldn’t be surprised to feel his heel on their backs. Or his knife to their necks?
One after another, the results of Obama’s arrogant socialist rule started exploding.
The deliberate, repeated admin-istration lies and cover- ups about the murders of four Americans in Benghazi last September, including the U. S. ambassador, were being laid bare in congressional testimony.
The secretary of Health and Human Services was reported as pressuring insurance executives to cough up money for corrupt Obamacare. The Environmental Protection Agency was being cozy with requests by left- wing “ green” groups while stiff- arming conservativeones. And don’t forget the lies and cover- ups about Obama’s gun- running “ Fast and Furious” scandal to arm Mexican drug dealers, and his bribes for corrupt cronies like Solyndra.
While Obama finally may be making himself too heavy a burden for liberal media to bear, massive permissive abortion still is dear to their hearts, which seem as lifeless as an unborn baby’s heart given a shot of poison to cause demise.
The front- page USA Today news story of May 14 asked, in the reporter’s words, “ whether abortion opponents can use the gruesome deeds of a single clinic operator to advance their agenda.”
A single clinic operator?
Pro- life activists long have contended that late abortions and survivals aren’t rare, and that abortionists regularly dispose of survivors.
That was precisely why the legislation was proposed in Illinois that Obama opposed — to remedy a glaring problem, not an imaginary one.
The editors of National Review Online wrote “ Gosnell Is Not anAberration” on May 13, concluding: “ Thanks to the misguided social entrepreneurship of the Supreme Court, abortion is protected as a constitutional absolute, and lateterm abortions, grisly as they are, enjoy substantial protection as well. What that looks like in practice is Gosnell’s slaughterhouse.
“We should not pretend that this evil does not extend past the Philadelphia city limits,” they wrote. “ If you would have an unlimited abortion franchise, then you will have all that goes with it, including the pitiless knife of Kermit Gosnell.”
The article said that by opposing protections for abortion survivors, Obama “ must assume his share of guilt in this matter. So must those who voted for him because of his abortion absolutism rather than in spite of it.”
Obama, of course, is one of Planned Parenthood’s fieriest defenders. And Planned Parenthood is similarly on record against laws for surviving babies.
Little Difference
In a May 14 column at the USA Today web site, constitutional law professor Mark Rienzi of the Catholic University of America wrote that “ while it may be more comfortable to ignore the similarity between the fetuses Gosnell legally ‘ aborted’ and those he illegally ‘ murdered,’ at least Planned Parenthood recognizes that there is little difference.
“ This is presumably why Planned Parenthood opposes legislation protecting children born during failed abortions, out of fear that if those babies are protected, the similar babies we allow to be killed inside the womb might have to be protected, too,” Rienzi wrote.
Activist Lila Rose’s Live Action organization ( liveaction. org) currently is releasing videos in a series titled
Inhuman, about “ illegal, inhuman, and gruesome practices at abortion centers across the country.”
Meanwhile both LifeSite News. com and LifeNews. com reported on May 15 that former staffers for a Texas abortionist claim that he regularly killed large surviving babies, including by twisting their heads off.
Twisting their heads off! What glories have you wrought, oh pro- abortion fanatical New York Times.
The Houston Chronicle posted accusations from pro- life activist Operation Rescue’s Troy Newman in a story that said the organization said “ three former employees of Dr. Douglas Karpen’s Houston clinic had relayed accounts of fetuses that had been illegally aborted, and provided them with grisly photographs.”
The Chronicle said Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst issued a statement saying: “ I read with disgust about the allegations of Houston- based abortionist Douglas Karpen performing illegal lateterm abortions surrounded by appalling sanitary conditions in his clinic. The Harris County authorities should perform a full- scale investigation and take action against those who broke state law.”
During Gosnell’s trial, one of his staffers had testified that “ it would rain fetuses” at the high- volume abortuary.
Are the facts about such abortions across the country about to start raining down?
That would leave big puddles around the limping parade of Planned Parenthood’s poodle, scandal- ridden Barack Obama.
